How to convert an image of text to text

Three steps to turn any image of text into editable, copyable text — no account needed, no software to install.

  1. Load your image of text

Drag a photo, screenshot or scan onto the drop zone, click to browse, or press ⌘V / Ctrl+V to paste. You can process up to 20 images at once.

  2. Choose the text language

Select the language the text is written in — English is the default, with 30 languages available. Matching the correct language improves accuracy for non-Latin scripts.

  3. Copy or download your text

Each image produces an editable text box with a confidence score. Click Copy text for the clipboard, Download .txt for a file, or Download all to grab every result at once.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an image of text to plain text?
Drop or paste the image on this page, choose the language of the text, and the OCR engine returns editable text within seconds. Copy it to your clipboard or download a .txt file.
What kinds of images of text work best?
Clean printed or typed text at reasonable resolution (300 DPI or higher for scans) gives the best results. Phone photos, screenshots, and scanned documents all work. Low contrast, blur, or decorative fonts reduce accuracy.
Can I convert images of handwritten text?
Neat block handwriting may produce usable output, but cursive and messy handwriting are unreliable. The OCR engine is optimized for printed text.
Which image formats are accepted?
JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF, up to 25 MB each. This covers virtually every image format from phones, cameras, scanners and screenshot tools.
Is the image of text uploaded anywhere?
No. The entire OCR process runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly. No image data is transmitted, stored or logged. Closing the tab clears everything.
How many images of text can I convert at once?
Up to 20 images in one batch. They are processed sequentially, and you can copy or download all results together.
What languages can the tool read from an image of text?
30 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Ukrainian, Turkish and Hebrew.
How accurate is the text extraction?
Clean printed text typically scores above 90% confidence. Every result displays its confidence score so you know exactly where to double-check.

How image-of-text recognition works

When you drop an image on this page, the browser decodes it, scales it to the resolution range the OCR model was trained on, and feeds it to Tesseract 5 — the proven open-source recognition engine, compiled to WebAssembly so it runs at near-native speed inside your browser tab.

The engine locates lines, words and characters, then returns plain text along with a confidence score for each image. Results appear in editable boxes so you can fix any misread character before copying or downloading.

The first conversion takes a few extra seconds while the engine (~3 MB) and the chosen language pack (0.5–4 MB) download. Both are cached by your browser, so subsequent images process immediately — and the tool works fully offline after that initial load.

Your images stay private

All text recognition runs entirely on your device. No image is transmitted, stored or logged — the only downloads are the OCR engine and the language pack you selected. Closing the tab releases all in-memory copies.
